The hands behind the Hollow
Based in New Mexico, Brittany Chance is the researcher, formulator, and maker behind every Obsidian Hollow product. She customizes each base, measures every addition, and prints and applies each label by hand. The Hollow is atmospheric by design, but the person, process, and exacting hands behind it are very real.
She studies each formula as a whole—its actives, aroma, texture, performance, and presentation—then refines it through research and personal use until it earns a place on the shelf. Curiosity, honesty, and an almost unreasonable attention to detail guide everything she brings to the workbench.
My Story
Before there was a Hollow, there was a path.
Brittany began True Path Apothecary in late 2016 after leaving her corporate job. She found herself sitting on her office floor among books, notes, ingredients, and possibilities—learning about essential oils, carrier oils, bath and body products, health, peace, and caring for yourself inside and out. Making became part of finding her way back to herself.
True Path was both a business and a compass. It carried her through markets, formulas, products, and years of experimentation. Years later, the demands of work made it impossible to give the shop what it needed. The virtual doors closed, but the instinct to create never left.
The archive did not only show her what she had made. It returned the reason she began.

The instinct to create never left. In November 2025, she began by redesigning the True Path logo, but carrying the old identity forward never felt right. After many names, themes, and images, Obsidian Hollow arrived with an instinctive certainty: this was the world broad enough to hold everything that had accumulated along the way— cosmetic science and product strategy, alchemy and botanicals, technology and handwork, forest shadows and strange details, research and emotion, usefulness and beauty.
True Path was the guiding light she found while searching. Obsidian Hollow is the world that Path eventually opened into.
Today, every product begins with the end user. Ingredients are researched. Bases are selected and customized. Cosmetic peptides are incorporated where they make sense. Scent, texture, application, packaging, and the smallest visual details are considered as parts of one experience. The work is methodical; the result does not have to feel ordinary.
Obsidian Hollow is still becoming. It is part laboratory, part workshop, part sanctuary, and a place for whatever curiosity earns its way onto the bench next.
